Tom Maher has urged his GB women's basketball side to take a huge step towards Olympic glory as they make their debut at EuroBasket this weekend.
The men's and women's teams already have automatic qualification for next year's London Games.
But coach Maher is determined the women make an early impact and sees the EuroBasket in Poland as vital to the team's development.
The women face a tough opener against Belarus tomorrow before the Czech Republic on Sunday and Israel on Monday. It is the first time the outsiders have played in the European championships and Maher has set the team a minimum target of at least one victory.
The straight-talking Aussie said: "We know how difficult our draw is, but we have to play these teams and show we are not frightened of them. We have to get better and better and come London I hope we can really get some respect.
"The Olympics is the goal. We have to look at London and the first step is to look good in Europe.
"We want the British public to be proud of this team and the culture in Britain is such that they can handle a loss if they feel they've been represented appropriately.
"Our goals are to be the best we can, win some games, and finish with respect of the British people."
GB's chances have been boosted by the return of Jo Leedham from a knee injury, but they will be tested by Belarus and the Czech Republic who both reached the final four in last year's World Championship.
"We need to be as good as we can in Europe and keep building," Maher added.
